Charleston Day Trip - 2/20/10

I had a fantastic time on our day trip to Charleston. The tour of Middleton Plantation was a real wake-up call about the public perception of slavery and plantation life. The African-American focus tour was disappointing in that there was very little focus on the lives of African-Americans on the plantation. I also found the omission of any mention of slavery during the house tour extremely telling. I don't know who writes the scripts for the guides to read, but they obviously don't want tourists thinking about the suffering of enslaved Africans while the peruse they Middleton's "family treasures". The juxtaposition between the Middleton tours and Alphonso Brown's Gullah tour was mind blowing. I would especially like to take a run-of-the-mill Charleston city tour to see how it compares to Mr. Brown's. I took a ton of awesome pictures, but sadly, the SD card in my camera has chosen to corrupt itself. This is what's left...
